February 4, 2006 Storm

Back to oldcamano.net

Every 5-10 years, Camano gets a winter storm with a high tide, that rearranges beach logs, bulkheads, and the beaches. On February 4, 2006 we got a big storm during a +12.1 high tide.

Below is a picture of the Manaco Beach bulkhead area and the picnic table we had on the bulkhead, befor the storm.

After the 2/4/06 storm, our picnic table was swept off our bulkhead and floated around 1/2 mile north of Manaco Beach. A few days later, during a calm high tide, I towed the picnic table back to Manaco.

Below is a picture of the Manaco bulkhead during the storm.

All these beach logs, washed away from non-bulkhead areas during the high tide and storm. Normally, there are no logs in front of bulkheads.

This was a great log for sitting and "bouncing on" before the February, 4, 2006 storm. The log had been in that place for at least 5 years. It was 1/3 mile south of Manaco, between Manaco and Cama Beach.

The "bouncy log" was still in place before the storm. Note the dead fir tree snag in the backround.

The "bouncy log" was gone after the storm, but the dead fir tree snag is still their, but it is at a lower angle than it was.
